IAM Data Solutions

Table of Contents

In today’s digital age, IAM members must embrace digital solutions like video surveys, digital packing lists, online pricing, and paperless offices to remain competitive. However, true digital transformation in the global moving industry hinges not just on adopting new tools, but on the seamless, real-time exchange of data between stakeholders. While individual companies can implement digital tools independently, creating an efficient, interconnected global network requires a coordinated, collaborative approach.

Data Solutions is IAM’s strategic initiative to enable this transformation in the global moving industry. We’re creating standardized data exchange protocols to connect stakeholders, enhance efficiency, and secure sensitive information across the supply chain. By fostering collaboration and innovation, we’re paving the way for a more interconnected, transparent, and digitally empowered future in moving and relocation services worldwide.

    Scope of Work

    Standards Development

Develop robust data standards that facilitate seamless communication and data exchange across the industry. A critical component of our work is ensuring that these standards prioritize data privacy and security, safeguarding sensitive information throughout the supply chain.

Research and Alignment with other Supply Chain Initiatives

The digital landscape in the supply chain is constantly evolving, and so must our approach. By researching and drawing inspiration from related industries, we ensure our standards are both innovative and compatible with the broader supply chain. This alignment allows us to create solutions that integrate seamlessly with other systems and technologies.

    Awareness and Education

We provide resources, training, and support to help industry stakeholders understand the benefits of digital transformation, particularly in the context of data exchange standards. Our efforts focus on educating stakeholders about the practical steps required to implement these changes and the long-term benefits they can achieve.

    Promoting Adoption

To demonstrate the value of our standards, we actively promote their adoption through proof of concepts (PoCs) and pilot projects. These initiatives allow us to test, refine, and validate the standards in real-world scenarios, ensuring they meet the needs of the industry and are ready for broader implementation

Featured Initiative: The ONE Record Standard

ONE Record is a groundbreaking standard developed by IATA (International Air Transport Association) that is rapidly gaining traction in the Air Freight Industry, with all major airlines committed to adopting the standard by January 2026. Learn how IATA promotes the standard and successful use cases here.

At the heart of ONE Record’s innovation is its security framework. Traditional 1-to-1 integrations rely on complex electronic messages pushed from your system to your partners’. While protecting data in a single 1-to-1 integration is manageable, the complexity increases significantly as the number of partner integrations grows. ONE Record flips this approach: your data remains under your control at all times, and you grant access to your partners on demand.

In addition to its security features, ONE Record is an open-source standard designed with flexibility in mind. This flexible design allows the standard to be expanded beyond its initial focus on air freight, making it highly adaptable to other industries, including moving.

The standard is built on three key pillars (flip cards or similar)

    Data Model and Ontology

Defines a common digital language, providing a data representation of objects and their relationships. It serves as the foundational building block for interoperability.

    Standard API

Specifies the methods systems use to exchange data, ensuring smooth communication between different platforms.

    Security Framework

outlines how to protect data during transit, manage authentication (verifying who requests access to your data), and handle authorization (controlling which data your partner is allowed to access)

Recognizing its potential, IAM Data Solutions is adapting and testing this standard for the moving industry, making it one of our most promising initiatives.

    The ONE Record Pilot Program

Following an Agile and Iterative approach, the pilot program is designed to test a minimum viable version of the ONE Record standard in a low-risk, low-investment scenario. This approach allows organizations to explore the benefits of ONE Record without significant upfront commitments, making it an ideal opportunity for those looking to lead innovation in the moving industry.

The pilot is open to all interested organizations eager to be at the forefront of digital transformation. If a technology partner supports your ERP or Move Management Software, you can also apply as long as your partner joins, as they will need to implement the integration.

    Ideal Participants

    • Organizations that have already begun integrating digital solutions into their operations.
    • Companies using a robust Move Management System, preferably with experience in integrating third-party platforms and applications.
    • Technology suppliers whose solutions would benefit from improved data sharing.
    • Champions of collaboration and collective innovation.

    Why Join the Pilot?

    • Operational Efficiencies: Even with the pilot’s minimal scope, successfully automating the exchange of valuable data will eliminate redundant data entry and reduce the likelihood of errors.
    • Learning Curve Advantage: Gain a head start in understanding and adopting the ONE Record Standard. This early experience will be invaluable as the industry moves toward broader adoption, positioning pilot participants ahead of the curve.
    • Industry Leadership and Recognition:
      • Demonstrate leadership, collaboration, and innovation by being among the first to pilot the ONE Record Standard.
      • Earn a unique designation as a Data Solutions Pioneer. IAM will showcase pilot participants at the next conference in Las Vegas in October 2024.
